Climbing in the Rofan and Karwendel mountains

CLIMBING IN THE ROFAN

The two mountain ranges Rofan and Karwendel have long become favourite spots with climbers, since the range on offer speaks for itself – from Alpine classics, to state-of-the-art via ferrata routes, there are countless opportunities for climbing around Achensee.

With around 250 sport climbing routes, eight via ferratas, numerous Alpine classics and a forest high rope course in Achenkirch, the Achensee holiday sets high standards in the sport of climbing.

There is hardly any other mountain range in Tirol which offers more extremes than the Rofan mountains, which are embedded between the Wilder Kaiser and Achensee. The scenery changes form gentle, lush green meadows on the south side to rugged, up to 400-metre high north-facing cliff faces of the Rosskopf and the Seekarlspitze. Already legends such as Hermann Buhl made their first ascents on these cliff faces. The infrastructure has been considerably expanded in the last few years. Numerous sports climbing areas and the unique Achensee 5 Peak Via Ferrata, which runs over the five main peaks in the Rofan mountains, have been developed.
